L-W North Grad Allegedly Stabs Friend 25 Times in Rome

Reid Alexander Schepis is accused of stabbing Fabio Malpeso after spending Halloween night drinking and taking ecstasy.

Reid Alexander Schepis, a freshman at John Cabot University, allegedly stabbed longtime friend Fabio Malpeso 25 times after a Halloween of partying, drinking and doing drugs in Rome, reports The Huffington Post.

Schepis graduated from Lincoln-Way North High School in 2010.

Reports from ABC News state that Schepis, 20, told authorities he had never used drugs prior to the evening of Oct. 31, when he consumed ecstasy with alcohol.

After an evening of partying at a Rome nightclub, Schepis and Malpeso, 19, went to Malpeso’s apartment, said ABC News. Malpeso then went to sleep.

At dawn, Schepis allegedly entered his sleeping friend’s bedroom and stabbed him repeatedly, reports ABC News.

Malpeso’s sister, with whom he shared the apartment, heard his screams, as did her boyfriend. Malpeso survived and is now recovering in a Rome hospital, ABC News reports.

Experts say the attack was likely caused by a drug-induced psychosis or hallucination, according to ABC News.

Schepis is reportedly very distraught, crying and apologizing at any mention of Malpeso, says ABC News.

The Huffington Post reports that Malpeso has undergone surgery and is expected to live, despite being admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

According to ABC News, Schepis is under house arrest at an undisclosed location.

Multiple news outlets reported that the incident occurred exactly five years to the day after British student Meredith Kercher was stabbed to death in Perugia, Italy, in the apartment she shared with the now-acquitted Amanda Knox
