Man Driving With Beers and Child in Car Causes Accident: Police

A Frankfort man with a DARE water bottled filled with beer inside his car was charged with driving under the influence, according to a Mokena Police report.

A Frankfort man was accused of causing a car accident while driving drunk, according to a Mokena Police report.

Todd A. Troeger, 50, of the 11500 block of Myrrh Lane in Frankfort, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

On Dec. 21, Mokena Police were called to a two-vehicle accident at Schoolhouse Road and Francis Road around 1:45 p.m. One of the drivers said she was stopped at a traffic light while facing north on Schoolhouse Road when she was rear-ended by the other car, according to the report. Neither driver was injured, nor was a child passenger.

The driver of the other car, Troeger, said he thought the car in front of him was turning and stepped on the gas, police said. He admitted to drinking two beers and his breath smelled like alcohol, police said. Troeger agreed to take a Breathalyzer test and it registered 0.129, and he failed field sobriety tests.

When asked whether he was sure if he had only two beers, Troeger said he had started drinking earlier in the day and wasn’t sure, police said. Troeger also had a child with him and arrangements were made to get the child to a parent, police said.

While searching his car, police found a Frankfort Police DARE water bottle filled with beer, as well as several cans of beer in the trunk, according to the report.

While in custody, Troeger asked if officers minded if he had a beer while he was waiting, according to the report. He also said he may sue the officers, and compared the arresting officer “to Roman soldiers that arrested Jesus Christ,” according to the report.
