Man Falls Asleep While Being Questioned by Police

Udai C. Nair, of Mokena, was cited with a DUI after police were called to the White Castle parking lot.

A Mokena man faces DUI charges after falling asleep while being questioned by the police.

Udai C. Nair, 39, of the 19600 block of Cambridge Drive, was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol at 2:11 a.m. Jan. 13 on the 9500 block of W. 191st Street.

An officer responded to a report of a Ford Mustang driving recklessly in the parking lot of White Castle. When police arrived, they found the Mustang double parked on the west side of the lot.

When questioned, Nair, the driver, repeatedly denied drinking, despite the fact that he smelled of alcohol and was intermittently inaudible, according to police reports.

Nair eventually admitted to drinking. He then fell asleep in his car when the officer stepped away to check his information. He was also unable to stand up straight.

Police placed Nair under arrest after he refused field sobriety tests. At the police department, he refused to submit a breath test or to answer any questions.

Nair was cited, refused to post bond and was transported to Will County Jail, before posting bond later that morning. His court date is Feb. 6.
