Mokena’s Mobil gas station was the victim of a burglary just a few days after Christmas.
The event occurred at 4:11 a.m. on Dec. 27 at the La Grange Road gas station, according to reports from the Mokena Police Department.
$100, 12 packs of cigarettes and the bottom drawer of the store’s cash register were stolen, police report.
Police initially responded to an alarm at the gas station. When they arrived, they found the north entrance glass door shattered.
Video surveillance revealed that the burglar drove a dark Chevy Venture minivan and broke the glass with a sledgehammer before entering the business. Once inside, cameras showed the offender grabbing the bottom cash register drawer, as well as several packs of cigarettes.
The burglar appeared to be a black male with a goatee. He was wearing a St. Louis Cardinals baseball hat, a gray jacket with black sleeves, light colored gloves and black shoes. The Venture had a luggage rack on the roof and the top rear driver’s side taillight was not illuminated.
