Mokena Mom Who Beat Son with Belt Goes to Trial

Korie Kellogg, 30, was on trial Thursday in Will County Circuit Court on charges that last April she abused her 10-year-old son with a belt.

Korie Kellogg, 30, was on trial Thursday in Will County Circuit Court on charges that last April she abused her 10-year-old son with a belt.

The ex-wife of former Chicago Bulls player Eddy Curry, Korie Kellogg, 30,  according to a Mokena police report.

She is being tried on charges of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

The felony charge was filed the next day after the boy told school teachers, when they asked about the marks on his body, that he had been “whooped," prosecutors said. He was later taken to the hospital to be examined.

A Silver Cross Hospital employee reported the incident as abuse. Charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony, she appeared in court Thursday with her attorney, Jeff Tomczak. According to a Sun-Times Media report, the defense attorney argued before Judge Daniel Rozak, saying, "…Kellogg's physical punishment wasn't given in anger or to be malicious."

He focused his attention of the idea that a parent has a right to punish a child. However, the prosecution argued that the punishment was "unreasonable." Read more about the child's testimony in the Sun-Times Media story.
