Mokena Police Blotter: Three DUIs in Two Hours

Mokena police reports, Jan. 8-15

SUNDAY, JAN. 15

Felony Drug Possession

Trevor J. Gavitt, 18, of the 11300 block of 195th Street in Mokena, was charged with felony possession of cannabis, possession of drug equipment and driving without lights. Police said they stopped Gavitt’s car in the 10300 block of 191st Street around 12:30 a.m. for driving without headlights and smelled marijuana. According to the report, officers searched the car and found a digital scale, a total of 55 grams of marijuana and $562 in cash. While being taken into custody, Gavitt dropped a glass pipe, police said.

A passenger was released without charges.

Man Says Breathalyzer Was Wrong

Derek J. Dalessandro, 39, of the 14600 block of Maple Creek Drive in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to signal. Police said they stopped Dalessandro’s car near 191st Street and LaGrange Road around 1:30 a.m. after turning and changing lanes without a signal. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer, according to the report. Though police recorded his blood-alcohol level at 0.108, Dalessandro was quoted in the report as saying, “The tests are wrong. I disagree with the results.”

Tested in the White Castle Drive-thru

Christopher R. Coughlin, 31, of the 300 block of Carol Road in New Lenox, was charged with DUI. Police said they were called to the White Castle parking lot around 2 a.m. about a man passed out behind the wheel. When officers arrived they found a man matching Coughlin’s description in the drive-thru lane and asked him to step out of the car. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, according to the report.

Slumped Behind the Wheel

Timothy M. Lerner, 24, of the 21600 block of 108th Avenue in Frankfort, was charged with DUI. Police said they were called to the 18700 block of Wolf Road around 3 a.m. about an unconscious man slumping forward with his foot on the brake. It took officers about 90 seconds of shaking, rubbing and yelling to fully awake him, according to the report. He was arrested after failing field sobriesty tests, police said.
