Police: Mom Punches Son's Girlfriend for 'Sneaking Him Heroin'

After her son went missing from rehab, a Bridgeview woman chased down his girlfriend at the Mokena Police Department and accused her of interfering with her son's treatment.

A Bridgeview woman was accused of punching her son's girlfriend at the Mokena Police Department on Oct. 11 after suspecting the girlfriend was interfering with her son's drug rehab.

Tammy Mackowiak, 43, was charged with battery, according to a police report. She was released on a $750 personal recognizance bond.

Mackowiak told police she checked her son into a Joliet drug rehabilitation center at about 8 a.m. Thursday. When she returned for a scheduled intervention meeting at 5:30 p.m., staff members told her that her son left with his girlfriend, a 20-year-old Mokena woman.

According to the report, Mackowiak said she spotted the two in the parking lot at the CVS Pharmacy located at Wolf Road and Route 30. She pulled into the lot and the two scattered, her son on foot and the girlfriend in her car, police said.

At about 5:50 p.m., the Lincoln-Way Public Safety Communications Center notified officers that a girl asking for help was using the lobby phone at the Mokena Police Department. The office was closed for the night, but the lobby is equipped with an emergency phone.

The 911 center staff member heard a second person enter the lobby, later identified as Machowiak, and an argument ensued.

When Mokena police arrived, the Mokena woman accused Mackowiak of punching her in the face at least six times, pushing her against the wall and spitting in her face.

Police said there were no apparent signs of injury but called the Mokena Fire District for possible treatment.

According to the report, Mackowiak told police "she was furious" with the Mokena woman for "interfering with her son's rehabilitation and wasn't thinking clearly."
