Pilled-Up, Intoxicated Mokena Woman Wrecks Car on Way From Bible Study: Cops

A Mokena woman who wrecked her car on 104th Avenue explained to police she drank only half a glass of wine at a Bible study after party but also admitted to popping an awful lot of pills.

The woman, Bonnie Gorgievski, 58, of 11609 Seminole Court was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage.

An officer found Gorgievski behind the wheel of her 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. The front end of the car was resting on the ground, the "windshield was cracked in multiple locations and the front airbags were deployed," police said.

A nearby guardrail was "noticeably damaged and dented in," police said, and "debris lined the path from the guardrail to the Mitsubishi."

An officer asked Gorgievski if she was all right and "Bonnie stated that she was driving herself home from 'Bible study' before she struck the guardrail," police said.

Gorgievski reportedly told police she took five Ativan anti-anxiety pills, a Depakote seizure disorder pill, and a Lamictal, an anti-epileptic medication also used to delay mood episodes in adults with bipolar disorder.

Gorgievski appeared "confused" and was "not attentive" to paramedics, police said, but insisted she had not over-imbibed, telling an officer "she had a half-glass of wine less than an hour ago at a party after Bible study."

Gorgievski was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where X-rays revealed she had no broken bones, police said.

While at the hospital, Gorgievski told staff she "took too many (Ativan) because they weren't working," police said. "She added that she was 'wobbly' before leaving the house and going out tonight. Bonnie also related to staff that all the Ativan 'made (her) see double,' and that she was seeing double prior to the accident."
