Police Blotter: $4,800 of Cosmetics Stolen; Suspect Runs Through Traffic

$4,800 of Cosmetics Stolen
Antonio Rivera, 34, of the 4600 S. Fairfield in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. A manager from CVS Pharmacy, 11200 West Lincoln Hwy., called police to report that she saw Rivera stealing cosmetics around 3 p.m. Over the past month, the store had Rivera on tape stealing thousands of dollars worth of cosmetics, police said. According to a supplemental report, the total estimated loss was over $4,800. Rivera was released on bond.

Can't Outrun Possession Charge
Thomas G. Nowak, 28, of Mokena, was charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Mokena police said Evergreen Park police officers saw Nowak run across six lanes of traffic on 95th Street, across from the Cavatappi restaurant parking lot, 3020 W. 95th St., around 6:24 p.m. Officers stopped Nowak after he was almost hit by several cars. Nowak said he was helping a friend park in the parking lot, police said. Police found a used syringe in Nowak’s pocket, a metal cooking plate with black residue and an empty cigarette pack, according to the police report. At the station, officers removed a small package containing 0.2 grams of heroin from Nowak’s wallet, according to the report.
