Police Blotter: Damage to Lawn, Hit and Run

Mokena Police reports from May 7-11.

THURSDAY, MAY 10

Drive-Thru Lawn

A man told police that his lawn was damaged after someone drove across it. Mokena police officers were called to the 9300 block of Elm Ave., after a resident reported criminal damage to his property. The victim told police that some time between 9 p.m. May 10 and 6:42 p.m. May 11, someone had driven through his yard. The victim notified police after speaking with Mokena village officials, who told him to contact police and file a report.

No Collision, No Need To Stop

Jose A. Martinez, 31, of the 3000 block of Forest Preserve Drive in South Chicago Heights, was cited for an improper lane usage violation, hit and run, and no valid driver's license, following an accident in the 18900 block of S. La Grange Road. According to a police report, Martinez was driving on I-80 when he abruptly changed lanes, causing the vehicle behind him to spin out and crash along the median, before Martinez drive off. A witness of the accident followed Martinez down I-80, getting his license plate number before contacting Mokena Police. Martinez told police that he left the scene because he did not hit the wrecked vehicle and did not feel that he needed to stop. Martinez was released on bond and assigned a June 13 court date.
