Police Blotter: 'What Else Was I Supposed To Do?' Alleged Drunken Driver Asks Cops

Fraudulent Wire Transfer
A 49-year-old woman told police her credit card information had been stolen two weeks ago, causing her to close the account. However, she said, three people called her on Dec. 1 to say they had received checks from her requesting a wire transfer to India. One of the callers went ahead and wired $300 before verifying the request with the account holder, police said. The woman was advised not to give any personal information over the phone and tell anyone else to notify their local law enforcement agencies.

Post-Thanksgiving DUI
Jill C. Ording, 29, of the 15900 block of 143rd Street in Homer Glen, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to signal and improper lane usage. After investigating a domestic disturbance at White Castle involving alcohol, officers advised Ording to arrange for another way home. According to police, she got in her car anyway, around 3:30 a.m., making a wide left turn onto LaGrange Road and swerving for several blocks. When asked why she disobeyed officers, police said, Ording responded, “What else was I supposed to do?" She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and later submitted to a Breathalyzer exam, blowing above the legal limit, police said.

The Shot Heard Around the Neighborhood
Lawrence E. Pierce, 43, of the 9200 block of Pullman Court in Mokena, was charged with criminal damage to property and unlawful discharge of an air gun. Police said Pierce hired a pellet gun at his shot neighbor's garage door around 6:30 p.m. from his property across the street. Both Pierce and his neighbor told police they have an ongoing feud over about the loud noise coming from the neighbor’s car. Police said Pierce had been drinking before they questioned him.
