Man Allegedly Punches Woman in Face at 191 South

A man was arrested for battery after he allegedly punched a woman when she took offense at his use of a racial slur.

Billy Jack Pelton, 32, of the 1900 block of Garden Road in Pearland TX, is charged with one count of battery after allegedly hitting a woman at 191 South.

Officers were dispatched at 11:14 p.m. to the bar.

When they spoke with the victim, she told police that she and her friend were smoking in the beer garden when Pelton asked them for a cigarette.

The victim told him she had Newports. Then Pelton told her “That’s a [racial term] cigarette. I don’t want that,” according to police reports.

When the victim said she didn’t appreciate his comments, Pelton allegedly became angry and tried to hit her with his beer bottle. The victim told police that he missed. Then, he allegedly punched her in the face with a closed fist, before numerous people broke up the altercation.

Pelton said that an altercation had occurred, but that he wasn’t involved.

Police reports state that there was a strong odor of alcohol on Pelton’s breath when he was being questioned.

Both the victim and her friend identified Pelton as the alleged offender. The victim stated that she wanted to file a complaint.

Pelton was arrested for battery, transported to the Mokena Police Department and released at 12:15 a.m. His court date is Dec. 19.
