Police Blotter: Hit and Run, Sweatshirt Returned With a Brick

Mokena police reports, Oct. 30 - Nov. 3

SATURDAY, NOV. 5

Warrant Arrest

Christopher A. Jones, 35, of the 11300 block of Front Street in Mokena was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on a failure-to-appear warrant out of Will County, Tinley Park Police said. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. His bail was set at $4,000, according to the report.

Open Container

Christopher P. Gill, 43, of the 18000 block of Townline Road in Mokena, was charged with violating anti-theft law, driving with expired registration and driving with an open container of alcohol, New Lenox police said. Police ran Gill's license plate and saw the expired registration. After pulling him over, they realized his registration sticker was taken from another car, and he also had an open can of Coors Light in his car. He was issued traffic tickets.

'Strung Up'

Police are looking for information regarding a man who reached over the counter at an off-track betting facility in the 19000 block of Old LaGrange Road and made off with $125 cash around 11 p.m. Police described the man as black, about 6-feet 3-inches tall, weighing 250 pounds with a beard. They say he was wearing blue jeans, brown boots, a white sweatshirt, gold watch and black vest at the time. According to the report, an employee couldn’t identify the man by name, but told police that he’s “the guy who always had his hair strung up with rubber bands.”

TUESDAY, NOV. 1

Stolen Go-Cart

Police say a metal go-cart frame worth $200 was stolen from a yard in the 10200 block of 195th Street. The owner told police he had left it on the side of his garage a couple days earlier and noticed it was missing around 4 p.m. on Nov. 1.

SUNDAY, OCT. 30

Hit and Run

John T. Stack, 23, of the 24000 block of Center Road in Frankfort, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. Police said Stack rear-ended a car in the 11200 block of Front Street around 3 a.m., leaving his front bumper and license plate behind. He called police about 30 minutes later to say he had driven himself to Silver Cross Hospital and would meet with officers when he was done getting checked out, according to the report.

Brick Tossing

William B. Rembert, 22, of the 22000 block of Main Street in Richton Park, was charged with criminal damage to property. Police said Rembert and a friend got into an argument about who should keep a sweatshirt on the way back from a bar around 3 a.m. Back at home, in the 11200 block of 194th Street, Rembert wrapped the sweatshirt in a walkway brick and threw it through his friend’s window, police said. According to the report, Rembert had given his friend his wallet back at the bar for safekeeping, which he then gave to police. Four days later, Rembert met with police and admitted to throwing the brick, calling his actions “stupid” and blaming it on alcohol, police said.
