Police Blotter: Three Thefts in One Day

Mokena police reports, Dec. 21-28

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 28

Stolen Electronics

A flash drive and car subwoofer, valued at $150 each, were reported stolen from an orange Chevy Cavalier parked in the 19400 block of Kylemore Lane around 2:45 a.m. The car owner told police he came out of his home to check out a neighbor’s car alarm and found that his own car had been rummaged through. He said he saw a man walking eastbound on Willow Lane as he left his house.

Stolen Lighter

A lighter and some change were reported stolen from a black Dodge Stratus parked in the 19300 block of Foxford Lane between 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 28. The car owner told police that someone had left the driver’s door open and rummaged through the passenger compartment.

Stolen Credit

A checkbook containing two credit cards was reported stolen from inside the Mokena State Bank around 1:30 p.m. An elderly bank customer told police that she last saw her checkbook on the bank counter. By the time the woman reported the missing credit cards two days later, they had been used without her permission, police said.

Police said they would hand the matter over to investigators and obtain the bank’s surveillance footage for possible leads.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 21

Property Hit and Run

Eric C. Ekstrom, 44, of the 11800 block of Stephanie Lane in Mokena, was charged with leaving the scene of a property accident, driving off the road, driving while license revoked and driving with no insurance. Police said Ekstrom struck both a mailbox and a bush in the 11100 block of First Street and fled, leaving his front bumper and license plate behind. Ekstrom and a passenger were found minutes later changing a tire at Division Street and Third Street.
