Sheriff's Dept. Enacting 'I Will Arrive Alive' Seat Belt Plan

A three-month long collaboration between the Will County Sheriff's Dept., Illinois State Police and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is promoting seat belt use.

I Will Arrive Alive initiative runs from June 17-Sept. 15, 2013.

 The Will County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Illinois State Police, District 5, were chosen by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is beginning a seat belt program June 17. 

The program is part of a demonstration project to decrease unbelted crashes in suburban areas.

With the support of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Highway Safety Office, the Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police are collaborating to conduct increased enforcement and public outreach activities from June 17 through Sept. 15, according to Kathy Hoffmeyer, spokesperson for the Will County Sheriff's Dept.   

 “Serious crashes can happen anywhere, including close to home,” said Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas from the Will County Sheriff’s Office.  “We know that seat belts are the best defense in case of a crash and should always be worn.  That’s why we are asking the Will County residents to the following pledge:

 "I Will Arrive Alive by always buckling up.”

The Sheriff’s Office and State Police will step up traffic enforcement for the duration of the program, using a combination of announced and unannounced patrols.  Officers plan to attend community events, use social media and work with corporate partners to spread the I Will  Arrive Alive-Click It or Ticket message," said Hoffmeyer in a press release.
