State Police Stop Traffic on Portions of I-80 and I-55 Due to Blowing Snow
Zero visibility and drifting snow are causing hazardous driving conditions on I-80, west of I-55, and on I-55, north of I-80.
Traffic on Interstate 80, west of I-55, and on Interstate 55, north of I-80, has been stopped by the Illinois State Police District 5 because of blowing and drifting snow.
Visibility is described as at zero for both stretches of road and the snow is causing hazardous road conditions, according to a state police news release.
Motorists are being advised to travel only if it is absolutely necessary and to call 911 or *999 to report an emergency or request assistance.
District 5's jurisdiction is Will, Grundy and Kendall counties, and they are responsible for the interstates that run through those areas.
