Craigslist Klutz: Mokena Man Packs Gun For Protection, Shoots Own Leg

The 30-year-old man stuffed the handgun into the waistband of his pants before meeting with a couple interested in buying his bike off CraigsList.

A 30-year-old Mokena man who made sure to arm himself before heading into a CraigsList deal accidentally shot himself in the leg. 

Kenneth Dangman III, of the 10100 block of Kirkstone Way, grabbed a handgun and tucked it into his waistband before meeting with a couple interested in buying his bike. Dangman met with the couple at his mother’s house in the 11900 block of 195th Street. He told her to stay inside while he met with them inside a minivan. 

The gun discharged, firing through Dangman's thigh, into the floor of the van. He was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm after the April 28 incident, according to the report.

The buyers took off after his mother called 911, according to the report. Dangman holds a valid firearm owner's ID for the Glock semi-automatic pistol, but not a concealed carry permit.  

He was treated at Silver Cross Hospital.
