'Toilet Water' Used to Mask Weed Smell in Traffic Stop: Blotter

Mokena police reports, Aug. 8.

THURSDAY, AUG. 8

Cologne Can't Mask Drug Smell

A 17-year-old Frankfort man was charged with possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, possession of drug equipment and at least one traffic offense, according to a Mokena police report. He was stopped at about 9:48 p.m. after police noticed his car did not have illuminated taillights.

During the stop near the intersection of Everett Lane and La Porte Road, police detected a strong smell of cologne coming from the car, the report states. When the Frankfort man got out of the car, the cologne smell stayed in the car. The office suspected that the cologne was being used to mask drugs and asked for the driver's consent to search the car.

The officer found a large plastic bag with a green leafy substance that was suspected to be marijuana and a glass smoking pipe with burnt residue, the report states.

Fight Over Money

Two men reportedly got into a fist fight over a dispute about money, Mokena police said. The incident happened at about 6:43 a.m. in the 19100 block of South LaGrange Road, Mokena. Police said one man approached another man who had employed him on several occasions and demanded money owed to him. Video evidence showed the one man punched the other repeatedly.
