Where to Find National Night Out Events Near Mokena

Mokena doesn't have a National Night Out Against Crime event, but here's where to get your fill of cops, food and fun without too long a drive.

Tonight is the National Night Out Against Crime, a night when police departments across the nation meet, interact and just have fun with their communities to improve public safety and crime awareness.

Mokena doesn't have any events scheduled, but here's where to find events in nearby towns. All events are tonight, Aug. 2, 2011.

When and where: 6 to 9 p.m., , corner of Kansas and S. White streets, Frankfort.

Some of the stuff: Shred truck to destroy personal documents, K9 demonstration, reptile rampage, Frankfort Fire Department demonstration, touch a truck program, kids games, face painters, safety information, raffle prizes and more.

I totally want to see: Police Chief John Burica grilling the hot dogs for everybody.

When and where: 5 to 9 p.m., , 14750 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park.

Some of the stuff: Shred truck, music by Electric Blue, CSHS Color Guard, Jim Nesci’s Cold Blooded Creatures, Mr. D’s Magic Show, kids activities, DNA kits for kids, chances to see the prisoner van, squad cars and motorcycle units up close, chances to meet local officials and police officers including bike, traffic, motorcycle, DARE and school resource officers.

Some of the stuff: Classic car show, opening flag ceremony, tae kwon do demonstration, K9 officer demonstration, magic/juggling variety show, face painting by Dotsie the Clown, chances to ride CN Railroad Little Obie the Train, chances to visit with Tinley Park police officers, firefighters, public works employees, paramedics, Emergency Management Agency and representatives from local businesses.
