One of the important jobs of the Village Clerk is to oversee and manage the local election process. A very key part of that job is to make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is properly registered. I hope to regularly get that information out to the residents and get them registered.

Why are you seeking office?

I am seeking re-election because I feel passionate about being involved closely with the direction and progress of the Village of Mokena. During the past 4 years, I have become very familiar with the job of Village Clerk and hope to continue in this offices' vital role.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I have served as Village Clerk for the past 4 years. Since I am retired, I have had the time to represent the Village in many outside, community events, such as ribbon cuttings, chamber events, networking events, etc. I feel a very strong connection with the community, especially the business community, because of my former banking career.

In you opinion, what are the primary challenges facing the village?

The number one issue is the need to attract more business to bring our taxes down. Closely related to that is the need to keep out taxes down. Most taxpayers look at their tax bill and assume it all goes to the village, or at least a large part of it. The reality is that in Mokena, only 4 cents of every dollar goes to the Village. Spending that wisely is our challenge.

How will you address those challenges?

The existing Village Board has worked well together to guide the Village through one of the worst economic times since the Great Depression. I support and respect the many tough decisions that have been made and are necessary to continue moving Mokena forward. Communication to the community is key.

If elected, what will be your philosophy as a member of the village board?

The Village Clerk is a non-voting member of the board, however, the job is vital to the corporate structure of our Village government. I will continue to utilize all of my personal and professional skills to effectively manage my duties and responsibilities. And I will continue to work closely with my fellow elected officials and the Village Staff with respect, cooperation and admiration.
