Three candidates are campaigning for two seats on the. Newcomer  answers three issue-based questions about library programs and its budget.

What are the biggest issues facing the library district right now?

I would say increasing the collection. And I do believe there needs to be more transparency on the board’s part with bills being paid. That information needs to be available to the public and the board members. The agendas and board minutes should also always be posted on the website.

What programs could be cut from the budget?

I don’t think there’s any program that needs to be cut from the budget. I was on the board for 16 years, and I think the library’s done a very good job with programming within their budget restraints.

What programs must absolutely not be cut from the budget?

Children and young adult programming for sure. I think all the programs are pretty essential, but the children’s programs give them somewhere to go and something to do, and that’s important.
