High Tech Protects Lake Michigan Water Investment

Inspections are underway to detect possible leaks in the Lake Michigan water delivery system.

A survey is underway to detect possible leaks in the Lake Michigan water delivery system.

Residents seeing unfamiliar trucks or cars stopped in the middle of Mokena’s streets have no reason to be alarm, said Kirk Zoellner, assistant village administrator.

Contract staff from ME Simpson Co. are out and about conducting their annual leak survey of Mokena’s Lake Michigan water delivery system.

Simpson personnel use high tech sonar equipment to detect even the smallest of leaks in the system, according to Zoellner.

"Using data from their survey work, any leaks are quickly and efficiently repaired, helping protect Mokena customers’ investment in the system and assuring the continued uninterrupted delivery of pure Lake Michigan water to customers’ homes at the lowest possible cost," he said.
