Library Board Loses Two Members, Years of Experience

Both Robert Neubauer and Phyllis Jacobek resigned their positions on the Mokena Community Public Library Board within the last month. Both of the vacant seats have been filled already.

The Board lost two key members within the past month, as Phyllis Jacobek and Robert Neubauer both resigned their positions. Library Director Cathy Palmer praised both Jacobek and Neubauer for their years of service to the library, the community and the board.

While Neubauer had previously served for 19 years on the library's board of trustees, Jacobek was a newly elected trustee, although she was no stranger to the library. Previously, Jacobek served as the director of the library for a number of years.

Palmer said that Neubauer resigned due to personal reasons.

“It wasn't out of the blue, [Neubauer] had talked about [resigning] a little bit,” Palmer said. “He had been spending a bit more time in Florida and had talked about how he didn't really feel he had the time to give that it really takes to be a member.”

Palmer added that Jacobek resigned for similar reasons, and that the board will miss both of them.

“It was hard to lose them both,” Palmer said. “They had a lot of background and knowledge on how the library was run, but the three remaining board members all have similar knowledge because Pyhllis and Bob always shared their ideas and knowledge.”

She added that both positions on the board have already been filled, one by Ray Wagner and the other by Don McGuan. The two seats will be put on the ballot in April, whether or not Wagner or McGuan decide to run for reelection.
