Mokena Launches Ash Borer Removal Program

The Village of Mokena is embarking on an aggressive emerald ash borer removal program.

Over the next several years, residents can expect to see about 3,700 trees along public routes and on the parkways disappear, according to Kirk Zoellner, asst. village administration. The program is being implemented to eliminate the EMB infestation in the area.

At the same time, the village will be working to treat those trees that are not seriously infested. "Only the healthiest parkway trees will be treated" on an annual basis, he said.

Residents can expect notification letters if trees in near their homes are scheduled for treatment.
