Mokena Residents Reminded Not to Park in the Street During Snowfall

In an attempt to keep the streets plowed, residents are reminded not to park in the street.

As the snow piles up, Mokena Village officials noted Tuesday in a snow alert that residents are asked not to park in the street and to avoid driving when possible.

The snow removal program has been in full force, working 24/7 since the storm began. "Crews are clearing major arterial streets first. Residential streets are being cleared second. Cul-de-sacs and other areas which receive minimal traffic flow are being cleared last."

Residents are asked to do their part by not "blowing or shoveling snow from your driveway or sidewalk onto streets." For more information about snow plow efforts in the Village, visit the Village website.

As I was trying to shovel a path from street parking to the village sidewalk, for a pregnant worker, one of Mokena's finest stopped to inform me that throwing snow onto the street was grounds for arrest! Then today I drive by the Police station and someone pushed all the snow onto the street! I'll tell you what, these Police and Firefighters better learn where their pay comes from, because I'm one person that absolutely will NEVER agree to raise taxes for any pay increase for these groups.
