Mokena Residents Save Money; No More Car Stickers

The Mokena Village Board announced the end of license plate stickers and reminded villagers of watering regulations.

The Mokena Village Board authorized recently the end of village car stickers .

Village Administrator John Downs said that saves residents $13 annually for each car sticker. After the cost of mailing and printing, that amounts to about $25,000 in revenue a year.

But the village isn't losing money, he said. Instead, it's an opportunity to give residents a break. "Elimination of the fee was made possible by increased sales tax revenues in combination with the improved overall financial condition of the Mokena economy," said Downs.

Outdoor lawn sprinkling is allowed on an odd/even day basis from 7-11 a.m. and from 7-11 p.m.

"On odd-numbered days of the month, residents with odd-numbered addresses may water their lawn, and on even-numbered days of the month, residents with even-numbered addresses may water their lawn," he said.
