Mokena White Castle to Get a New Look

The fast-food restaurant at LaGrange and 191st Street should finish its renovation by summer.

Mokena White Castle patrons might have to travel a little farther to get their Saver Sacks, at least for a little while.

The restaurant chain presented plans to the Site Plan/Architectural Review Committee last week to raze its current structure at 9550 191st St. and erect a more modern-looking building at the same location, according to White Castle representatives.

The White Castle has been a fixture in Mokena since it took over the property at 191st and LaGrange from Hardee's in 1997. The building and attached parking lot were  originally designed with Hardee's in mind, and the make-over will help the restaurant conform to White Castle's corporate standards, according to both White Castle and the committee members.

The Mokena building will be a little different from that in New Lenox because they will use a slightly different tone of brick and place LED lights on the property. According to company representatives, the lights will save them significant amounts of money and still be very bright. The new design will also have more landscaping features than the current one.

Construction is expected to start as soon as permits are approved. The village board is expected to approve the plan on February 28th. The company should have its permit by the end of March, according to Director of Economic and Community Development Alan Zordan.

If things go as planned with the other village committees, the restaurant should be ready to serve by the summer.  It will look very similar to the location, which opened Sunday.
