Personnel Changes in Site Plan/Architectural Review Committee

The Village of Mokena Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of one committee member and approved another at its Oct. 22 meeting.

The Village of Mokena Board of Trustees voted to accept the resignation of Bradley Brink, a longtime member of the village's Site Plan/Architectural Review Committee, at its Oct. 22 meeting. Brink was not present at the meeting.

"I'd like to, on behalf of the board, thank Brad Brink for the 15 or 16 years he spent serving on various committees here in the village," Trustee John Mazzorana said. "I've known Brad for a number of years, and he's always done his best for the village of Mokena's residents. So thanks, Brad."

The board also voted to approve the appointment of Brian Dusak to the committee. Alan Zordan, the village's Director of Economic and Community Development, said Dusak is a state-licensed civil engineer with 10 years of experience. Mayor Joseph Werner said he had met previously with Dusak and Zordan, to discuss Dusak's desire to join the committee.

"We had a very lengthy and interesting conversation, talked about his background, his interests in the community, and his desire to serve and volunteer, and I feel very strongly that he would make a great addition to that group," Werner said.

Both Brink's resignation and Dusak's appointment were approved in unanimous votes.

Among the other agenda items was the board's approval of the Frankfort/Mokena American Legion Post 2000's Poppy Days fundraiser and membership drive, which included an agreement to waive all registration and permit fees.

Finance Director Barb Damron also presented the board with a brief proposal for the village's 2012 taxy levy, which would include an increase of $71,837 over last year's levy. The total estimated 2012 levy would be $1,721,358.

"Over the past ten years, the village's average tax levy increase has been approximately $84,177 or 7.45 percent," Damron said. "This year's proposed tax levy increase of $71, 387, or 4.36, percent is below the 10-year average."

The levy proposal won't be up for any board action or voting until the next meeting on Nov. 12.
