Scary Up Your Home for Mokena Park District Contest

Do you want to show off your Halloween spirit?

It's time to break out the cobwebs and corpse up the lawn for the yearly Halloween House Decorating Contest from .

To submit your haunted house, call the park district administrative office at 708-390-2401 by Oct. 17. Registration is free. Judging will take place between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Oct. 21 and 22.

Homes will be judged on creativity, originality, design and layout. Contestants do not need to be present during judging.

There are two categories: Amateur Ogres for homes that have never won a prize and Master Monsters, for those who have won in the past.

This leads into the park district's major Halloween event, Spooktacular Saturday. Indoor trick-or-treating, costume contests and a showing of the movie Casper will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at .

Kids in costumes get in free. Otherwise, it's $3 for kids 2-12 and $4 for kids 13 and older.
