Senior Living Facility Coming to Mokena

Mokena Village Board OK'ed the facility this week. It will feature both independent living and memory-care units.

Construction is expected to begin in May, for a 144-unit building providing several options for senior housing. The Mokena Village Board signed off on the plans this week.

The three-story building on an 11.4-acre site at 21536 Wolf Rd. will offer 48 independent-living apartments with either one- or two-bedroom floorplans and a private kitchen, along with 56 assisted-living apartments that will be either studios or one or two bedrooms with a limited kitchen. The building will also feature 40 memory-care units.

Sun-Times Media reports that Ryan Cos. plans to open the building by mid-2015.

Will this be affordable senior-care, or will it be exorbitantly priced and run by some out-of-state mega corp? I'd like to hear more about the rates and track record of the mangers. Less fluff journalism, please.

Affordable housing is always the issue not only for the elderly on fixed incomes but starter homes for young people out of college that want to stay living in this area. This area needs some affordable senior living options that are not ALL high end.
