How Will the Village Spend its Money in 2014?

The Mokena Village Board of Trustees discussed budgetary priorities for the 2014 fiscal year on Jan. 14, according to the most recent issue of the village newsletter.

Preliminary approval has already been given to numerous projects, including the following:

• More than $1.1 million for road repairs to resurface approximately four miles of village roads, including Old Castle South subdivision, Tall Grass subdivision, Marilyn Estates subdivision and Front Street from Schoolhouse Road to Wolf Road
• $290,000 to repair and replace sidewalks, curbs and streetlights and control pond erosion.
• $43,000 to seal pavement on primary roads.
• $75,000 to address the removal of public trees infested by the emerald ash borer.
• $13,800 for Route 30 construction and improvement.
• $10,000 for pedestrian improvements at La Grange Road and La Porte Road.
• $136,500 to rehabilitate the bridge on Townline Road.

Also in the latest issue of the village newsletter, it was announced that Mokena is now officially a “quiet zone” for trains on the Rock Island rail line. Metra recently removed the pedestrian platform crossing over the tracks directly between the Front Street lot and the downtown station to increase safety before the transition.
