100 Wins: Zvonar, Lincoln-Way East Set to Hit Football Milestone

Lincoln-Way East can clinch at least a share of the Southwest Suburban Blue football title with a win over Joliet Central on Friday night.

Kickoff is at 7:30 in Frankfort.

But that's not all.

Coach Rob Zvonar and the Griffins have a chance to notch their 100th victory in the next-to-last regular-season game of their 11th varsity year of football. And, while many expect victory to be a mere formality, Zvonar is wearing his Lee Corso-like "not-so-fast" attitude on his shirtsleeve.

East is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Southwest Suburban Blue. Joliet Central is 0-7 and 0-5.

"It has been brought to my attention that with a possible win this Friday night vs. Joliet Central, the Lincoln-Way East football program will have reached 100 victories in our 11th varsity season," Zvonar said in an email.

"While I personally feel about 1/100th responsible for this accomplishment, we did want to humbly thank you for the hard work and positive light in which you have covered high school athletics, and specifically Lincoln-Way East.

"In addition, if there were to be any mention of this milestone, (it is my wish) that it would be directed to the dedication and commitment of the student-athletes themselves (who have) allowed it to occur."
