The Board of Education reached a decision during its Aug. 15 meeting regarding the vacancies created by the . Board member Joseph Spalla, who has held the office in the past, was once again appointed to the position of vice president, which was vacated when Patrick Markham took over Troy's role as president.
"I'm happy to be in the role again," Spalla said.
The board also selected lifelong Mokena resident Jeff Regan as a new board member to fill the vacancy created by Troy's resignation. Regan became interested in the proceedings of the board of education last year when the district .
"I have three children in the school district," Regan said. "When the bus fee came out, it kind of sparked my interest in what was going on, so that's when I started following the board meetings every month and going from there."
As Regan continued to attend meetings each month, his interest and desire to get involved grew, until he got the chance to apply for a position on the board. Board members interviewed four candidates for the position on Aug. 11, ultimately deciding on Regan with a unanimous vote, according to Markham.
"I want to welcome him," Markham said. "I love the fact that he's a lifetime Mokena resident. He's been at I don't know how many meetings, I've seen him here. So he's done his due diligence and his homework, and he passed a pretty good interview that we had put forth. He was our unanimous consensus, our unanimous pick. So I welcome him to the board and look forward to his help."
Regan will serve the remainder of Troy's term on the board, which ends with the board election next April. Regan said he plans to seek re-election to the board at that time.
