Lincoln-Way District 210 Hosts Weekend Asset Celebration

Lincoln-Way District 210 area families are invited to an Asset Celebration the weekend of March 11-13 where they will enjoy games, crafts and live entertainment.

The school district is teaming up with churches and park districts from the Lincoln-Way area to offer programs and entertainment for youths of all ages.

"It is important to all of us that our young people grow into productive citizens,” said Supt. Lawrence A. Wyllie, co-chair of  TEAM Asset. “The asset program is one way to help make that happen. I want to thank our entire community for supporting this program.”

The celebration begins at 7 p.m. Friday, March 11, with a Battle of the Bands contest at The Hub, a non-profit multipurpose concert venue at 1303 S. Schoolhouse Road in New Lenox.

The event, which has been held at Lincoln-Way Central High School in the past, is open to middle school, junior high and high school students from the Lincoln-Way area. It will feature local youth group bands battling it out on their guitars, bass guitars and drums for prizes.

The celebration continues at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 13, with a pancake breakfast at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort.

Lincoln-Way area churches will serve up complimentary hotcakes in the school cafeteria until 10 a.m. Donations will be accepted to cover food expenses.

The festivities continue with a Family Faire, sponsored by Lincoln-Way area park districts, in the Lincoln-Way East High School gymnasium. Visitors will find children’s games, crafts and live entertainment.

At 11 a.m., ArtsPower National Touring Theatre will present “Jigsaw Jones: The Case of the Class Clown” in the auditorium at Lincoln-Way East.

The 55-minute musical is geared toward children in grades 1-4 and is based on a book written by James Preller.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the end to help offset the cost of the production.

Admission to the Family Faire also is free, but children are asked to bring a small new toy (such as a Happy Meal toy) to donate to the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation.
