Lincoln-Way to host forum for gardeners

Residents who maintain a community garden plot behind Lincoln-Way East High School or simply have an interest in gardening are invited to harvest some gardening tips from Will County Master Gardeners on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

The Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist gardeners with their questions and to discuss such topics as wildlife proofing strategies and vegetable gardening tips and techniques.

The forum will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Griffins' Lair inside the school at 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort.

"The forum is designed for gardeners across the Lincoln-Way School District to unite and find answers to their gardening questions," said Agri-Science Coordinator Daymon Gast.

"Our common problems are wildlife, insects and weeds," he added. "Sound advice can cure most of these problems."

More than 100 Lincoln-Way residents currently maintain a garden plot at the Lincoln-Way Agri-Science Center behind Lincoln-Way East High School. They grow everything from vegetables to flowers.

On Oct. 26, they will be asked to share their triumphs and tribulations with fellow gardeners and offer suggestions on how to improve the Agri-Science Center.

"The purpose of the meeting is two-fold," said Gast. "I want gardeners to pick up some sound advice from the Master Gardeners, and I want to pick up some advice from our community on how to improve the Agri-Science Center.

"We have come a long way in the last seven years," he added, "and I want the next seven to be even better."
