D210 Board Member Resigns; L-Way Accepting Applications to Fill Spot

Board member David Izzo was appointed to the Will County Board this week, leaving his spot on the District 210 school board open. The district will accept applications through Nov. 30.

Want a say about what's going on in the local high school district? The Lincoln-Way high school district is accepting applications for a board position after a member resigned Thursday.

Member David Izzo was appointed to the Will County Board on Thursday, filling the vacated position of county representative .

That leaves Izzo's position open. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, Nov. 30. For a copy of the application packet, contact secretary Sue Fennell at 815-462-2135 or sfennell@lw210.org.

Izzo, a Tinley Park resident, served on the District 210 board since 2005. His second term would have ended in 2013, when the next Lincoln-Way school board election takes place.

Whoever is appointed to the board will join other recent members who filled vacant positions before being re-elected. Kevin Molloy was appointed to the board in 2005 and re-elected in 2007 and 2011; after board member Ron Kokal died and was re-elected in April.

In 2012, all county board members will need to run for re-election following the 2010 Census. Each new district will get two representatives.

Izzo, a Republican, would run in District 2, which includes Frankfort, Green Garden, Manhattan and the portion of Tinley Park that's in Will. County board chairman Jim Moustis (R-Frankfort) will run for re-election in this district.

Lincoln-Way board member Chris Kosel (R-New Lenox) could also run for the county board in 2012, but he would run in District 12, which includes Mokena, New Lenox and part of Orland Park.

County board member Tom Weigel (R-New Lenox) will run in District 12, and challengers Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) and Ray Tuminello (R-New Lenox) have also announced they will run.
