Mokena Teachers Will Not Strike

Citing "healthy and productive" talks, the Mokena Teachers Association will continue contract negotiations rather than strike.

But on Tuesday night, spokesman Craig Martinus issued a statement to Patch saying negotiations for a new contract will continue. The teachers have been working without a contract since summer.

The union's statement read:

For the first time in months, the Mokena Teachers Association and the Board met face to face. The discussion was healthy and productive. The Association has decided to suspend the filing of the intent-to-strike at this time. Bargaining will continue on Monday, December 12th.

The district has not yet issued any comment on Tuesday's negotiations. This story will be updated as it develops.
