Rockets' Rockets Rock It

Mokena Intermediate School Rockets showed the school board the model rockets they built and launched for a fifth-grade class project.

At , "Rockets" isn't just the mascot.

On Thursday, a group of fifth-graders made a presentation to about the school's model rocket program.

The program started in 1998 with the enrichment classes, but soon spread to be a fifth-grade tradition.

Students Danielle Abell, 10, Gianna Gricus, 10 and Connie Beebe, 11, represented their class by showing their rockets and a video of the launch to the school board.

Each decorated her rocket in a personal way.

"We found some purple spray paint because that's my favorite color," Abell said.

Abell also added the word "Believe," a maxim her softball coach teaches.

Beebe also added a word to her rocket: Coco, the name of her favorite horse. Fellow equestrian Gricus' rocket was decorated with a horseshoe pattern.
