Summit Hill Girls’ Basketball Places 2nd in State

The Summit Hill Junior High School seventh grade girls' basketball team finished in second place.

From Summit Hill Junior High School Principal Pam Hodgson:

The Summit Hill Junior High School seventh grade girls’ basketball team capped off a remarkable season by earning second place in the IESA state tournament.

The tournament, which was held in Normal, showcased some of the best seventh grade girls’ basketball talent in the state. The Spartans, who won their regional and sectional tournaments, entered the state competition with an undefeated record.

As part of the elite eight in Class 74A, Summit Hill played Lockport Oak Prairie in their opening round. The Spartans defeated the Bulldogs 40-17 and advanced to the semi-finals.

Next, they played Effingham and pulled out an exciting 27-21 victory, where they held a leading Effingham team scoreless in the final two minutes of the game. That win placed them in the championship game where they met up with another undefeated team.

This time though, the Spartans fell 31-18 to a tough Canton team and took home the runner-up trophy.

Summit Hill closed out the season with an impressive 26-1 record.
