Walker Fifth Graders Graduate DARE Program

Throughout the school year, Summit Hill District 161 Walker School fifth grade classes participated in the D.A.R.E. program with the Tinley Park Police Department.  Officer Adamski came once a week for eight weeks to work with students on topics related to Drug Abuse Resistance Education.  Students learned of the dangers related to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.  They also learned about peer pressure and appropriate ways to respond in situations involving others. Children were taught the DARE method for making decisions:  Define, Assess, Respond, and Evaluate.  Working through the decision making process will help guide them in making good choices while being respectful, responsible, and safe.

On March 27,  fifth grade students concluded the D.A.R.E. program with an informal graduation ceremony.  All students who completed the program received a certificate and t-shirt.  Classroom winners who wrote outstanding essays relating to what they learned were also recognized during the ceremony. Some of the classroom winners are pictured above.
