The Mokena Community Park Foundation, a 501(3)C organization, held its first ever President's Cup Golf Outing at Odyessy Country Club in Tinley Park on Monday, July 16. The event, which drew more than 80 participants, featured a scramble-shotgun start, lunch and dinner, and prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive and more.

“We're very excited with the outcome,” said Park District Executive Director Jim Romanek. “Participants really loved the outing, that's the feedback we've been getting.”

The outing, with also had more than 41 hole sponsors, donated all of the money taken in by the event to the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. The foundation donates treasure chests full of toys to hospitals that provide treatment to children with cancer.

Romanek said that the Park Foundation hopes to make the event an annual happening and is already scoping out dates for next year.

“Based on the feedback, we're going to pick a date for next year,” Romanek said. “We'll probably also be picking another charity at that time as well.”
