Update at 1:41 p.m.

Emergency crews are about to open up reduced traffic lanes, according to the Illinois State Police.

Update at 12:13 p.m.

The Illinois State Police say emergency crews are attempting to upright the truck now. Cleanup procedures are still underway and both directions of traffic are still shut down.

Traffic is anticipated to resume shortly, but no definite estimates were provided.
A traffic alert is being reported at 11 a.m. on Interstate 80 at mile marker 124, in between the Orland Park and New Lenox exits in the eastbound lanes.

Crews on scene are reporting an overturned tanker truck that requires a haz-mat response to the area. Patch will update as more information becomes available.

omg Daniel not funny but had to chuckle a bit... having driven I-80 for work this past year I have to say there are SO many truck accidents -it is a nightmare trying to drive this road in regular good conditions not to mention snowy and slippery conditions.. there needs to be something done- I-80 IS NOT SAFE!! PERIOD

Can anyone confirm the accident is on I-80 Eastbound? I've been in same spot on I-80 Westbound for over 90 mins.

Near mm 145

The accident itself is on one (eastbound) side, the tank portion of the truck fell off and across the divider into the oncoming traffic (westbound) side.

Thanks BSGee and Mom OfTwo. Ryan Fitzpatrick has an update from the State Police.
just my opinion December 14, 2013 at 04:12 PM
I've driven i80 for the past 20 years and it is the worst expressway for accidents. I think it is because it's all open which makes for black ice. ..
