Illi-Hole have way too few people controlling the destiny of this once reverred state. Those fewRead More people cater to the unions and the unions have not held them accountable until they see their feet going in to the fire. Those few politicians should be held accountable by their constituents but those very constituents are brain dead and brain washed and do not know reality. The very law that convicted Governor George Ryan should be used against Madigan, Cullerton, Quinn and that is "good governance services expectations." They have failed miserably, but don't expect Lisa Madigan to make any waves. It will take a federal grand jury to do just that. Its the status quo in Illinois...the only change coming is higher taxes and more leaving Illinois....including me.

It looks like it's missing from the map? Is this a trick question?

Hereditary clans of Irish-politicians and the lack of will amongst the mass of uniformed,Read More misinformed and/or as ignorant as the day they were born electorate to find sturdy Oak-tree branches to hang 'em from. 'What's the matter with Illinois?' At this point, it'd be easier to try to answer 'what's right / not wrong with Illinois?'

@Kim Johnson- don't be silly Kim. Barry 's been in charge for 6 yrs now and could of appointed OprahRead More to that position if he wanted to. .
Bruce Cummings April 15, 2014 at 09:05 pm
@Kim Johnson. Not that it matters, but you have your facts wrong. President Barack Obama nominatedRead More Leonhart for the position of DEA Administrator on 2/2/2010. The issue here is people should be able to shop at a store without being followed or have the NSA track each word I am typing.
knee jerk April 15, 2014 at 09:15 pm
I'll do my shopping in either Lowe's or Wal-Mart's garden centers, at least for now, and only useRead More cash.
This is me with my friend Scheri, posing with the entire MercyMe band and our newly signed CDs!
Bob LeMay April 15, 2014 at 01:55 pm
While I don't know MercyMe's song "Dear Younger Me", Brad Paisley has an obviously similarRead More song "If I Could Write a Letter to Me". As a science fiction fan I would hesitate changing anything in my past, for fear of losing my wonderful wife and sons, but there are certainly things I've done that experience and greater knowledge and stronger faith have shown me were wrong, and that I now wish I hadn't done. Perhaps the better way to phrase it is that I wish I had someone in my life THEN who had been willing to give me the benefit of THEIR experience and greater knowledge and stronger faith to lead me along a better path. And that leads me to understand that I need to be THAT PERSON for others now! I must explain the hard facts and the truth that will prevent regret and heartache for someone else later. Thankfully, I know that I am forgiven by God, and, because of my own repentance, I am unburdened by those mistakes of my past.

A .22 cent tax on a SODA? Sounds like a Mob shakedown.

that's obama's home town. not that he showed up as a senator when we was one. too bad he isn't asRead More delinquent as Commander In Chief in the White House. He sucks hugely. A huge waste of a human being.
Stu Pidasso April 15, 2014 at 11:54 pm
true dat. there is alot of waste in this country, perhaps tis the reason we are trillions of dollarsRead More in the hole!! Our Founding Fathers would be rolling in their graves if they knew what is going on in our country, going right down the shitter......

Hey John Rithouse, if you don't like it, then don't come here for news. Guys like you make this sameRead More annoying comment every day. Are you mentally slow?
rubberband April 15, 2014 at 12:28 pm
This was out in my neck of the woods. All really great kids, college bound and starting their adultRead More lives. Having lost a child, I can say these families will mourn for as long as they live, and will have to find a "new normal" as EVERYTHING is changed for them now...I wish them strength, there is nothing quite like burying a child. Appreciated are the messages of respect and sympathy. It can be annoying to get news from areas other than your own, however the new Patch is doing things differently, and show no evidence of changing it back.....my best advice would be to ignore stories not in your area, and to write your editor directly, and share your comments with those who can make changes.

Kathleen April 15, 2014 at 08:47 pm
OK, let me take a wild guess here...This is Massachusetts so it shouldn't be that difficult toRead More figure it out. These two crack heads in their 40's are on SSI, claiming some phony disability and are living on SSI in a Section 8 apartment in a senior complex. Probably a good guess right? They put senior citizens in grave danger and will probably get a slap on the wrist and sent right back to live in the elderly housing... just a guess of course but probably pretty accurate. Either that or they are living in an apartment with one of their parents and are not on the lease but yet still live there...only in MA!
Geoff Burton April 15, 2014 at 09:40 pm
Kathleen I don't get the Massachusetts reference, having said that I think your about right.
century April 15, 2014 at 10:30 pm
Kathleen, your right. As for housing, the less number of homeless, the more grant money the city andRead More state receives for housing. It happens all the time in Pennsylvania. Free loaders like the crackheads mentioned in the story is why people who have legimate disabilities are judged as liars and have to fight for their rights.
Alice Riley April 15, 2014 at 09:12 am
Oh and in one year our property taxes more than doubled--and that's not even including what theRead More mayor plans to do with increasing property taxes. This state is run by corrupt politicians and union leaders. Their ineptitude has what has led us to this fiscal nightmare and they continue to look the other way and just expect to have the residents pay even more to solve the problems of their own making..
Grumpy Old Man April 15, 2014 at 01:33 pm
@Southeast Side - Well, if all of the middle class has moved out of Chicago it will be othersRead More (wealthy, poor, working class) who are paying the tax. If your argument is that there still is a middle class in Chicago and that they will pay the tax, say it. As it is your response just sounds like a left wing shill. Other than your last comment, I happen to think your post has a point because I think implicit in your response is that there is still a significant middle class in Chicago (but if taxes keep going up the comment in the main article could be a self fulfilling prophesy - maybe not - there is some controversy over whether millionaires would leave the state if the 3% additional surtax was imposed on earnings above $1 million).
Grumpy Old Man April 15, 2014 at 01:57 pm
Frankly, I am not so sure that Zorn doesn't have a point. The ever escalating property taxes affectRead More all of us and probably in excess of what we would pay in terms of increased property taxes (or rent increases due to them). However, it would require some trade off - like a reduced property tax level than currently in place and a single taxing entity for Chicago - the council to set all taxes in the City including taxes for CPS. I don't have the answer but I wouldn't mind some reduction in services and something done abut the constitutional provision that these pensions can't be touched regardless of how economic downturns affect the ability of the investments in which the funds are deposited to maintain a pension amount at a given level.

It says Around Town but the headline is UTAH. Utah is not near Natick!! I think everyone should notRead More open an article on Patch unless they see their town's name in the headline. So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!
Jim W April 15, 2014 at 09:59 pm
Phaedrus, from you I take that as a high compliment. I most definitely believe in and supportRead More unions.
Momx4inGeneva April 16, 2014 at 03:33 am
@William, You are the reason many folks leave this town. Liberal values, no sense of neighborhoodRead More trust, and pure judgment. So...should I tell my children they were conceived by a "sperm donor" as you think? Believe me, you didn't get me "worked up", only my "sperm donor" can do that. Sorry to disappoint. I won't even acknowledge the rest of your pint-sized egotistical comments. Talk to me when you have a disabled child, are a cancer survivor, and work hard enough to understand the real value of Conservative life. I am leaving this uppity town soon. It's quite sad, truthfully. I talk to many and they want out because of people you. I am leaving Illinois, I won't look back on Geneva as a good place to be even though I've been here 13 years. I only stayed for my "Sperm donor-ed children". You're a ruthless pig. William? William who? Reveal yourself like a real man would. You're a coward just like a terrorist. Saying ruthless things to belittle a woman, you're also an abuser. Seems to me your a bitter old man. May God forgive you, for he knows not what he does.
Momx4inGeneva April 16, 2014 at 03:48 am
@William you need to be "Booted" out of this town, and State. You can take your threatsRead More and abuse with you. You, the old man, married, but hasn't ever been able to shoot a "X" anything. Sorry God hasn't blessed you with a womb to carry your evilness.

John Chrusciel April 14, 2014 at 01:16 pm
John the reports stated the vehicle was on fire. This was before the crash. Maybe the driver saw hisRead More tractor on fire and had a massive heart attack? Who knows.
John Chrusciel April 14, 2014 at 01:21 pm
Decaturette back in the days before collapsible steering shafts it was a bad idea to wear a seatbeltRead More because during a head on collision the steering shaft would act as a spear and run you through. I never wore a seat belt my old MGA or TR3. However, this is no longer a problem because of modern design and engineering. Some people will hem and haw about being t-boned at an intersection and the harm that a three point harness can do. I personally know many people who have had their lives saved by seat belts. I always wear mine. They should afford children the same opportunity to protect themselves. A 25 mile per hour head on collision with another vehicle travelling at 25 miles per hour is like a 50 mile per hour collision. So I do not buy the argument about shorter distances nor do I buy the article about lower driving speeds. What can is cost to have simple lap belts installed in a school bus? Are we that greedy?
Becky April 14, 2014 at 03:03 pm
I think the real reason they don't install them is that it would raise a whole other level ofRead More liability -- like that then they would have to keep the seatbelts in good working order, and maybe enforce that people wear them. Could I sue them because another passenger flew out of their seat and hit me. Etc, etc.

Igor April 15, 2014 at 06:33 pm
Well maybe they should change the law and give people who stab other humans longer than 5 years. OneRead More thing to kill an animal for food, it's another thing to do to be sadistic.

More Liberal Common Core thinking... If a teacher can think a partially eaten PopTart looks like aRead More gun, then why wouldn't this marshmallow shooting device look like a WMD? It is sad and it is clear, that we will have very few students coming out of the public school system and go into any of the STEM programs. The dumbing down of America Marches onward...
A Delargo April 15, 2014 at 05:53 pm
