Burglars Clear Out Cigarette Shop: Police Blotter

Nearly $15,500 worth of cigarettes were stolen in a burglary at Select Cigars on LaGrange Road.

MONDAY, OCT. 29 Alarm mishap allows break-in at smoke shop Mokena police are investigating a burglary sometime after 11:15 p.m. Sunday and before 8:45 a.m. Monday at Select Cigars in the 19800 block of LaGrange Road. Cigarettes valued at $15,436 were stolen by burglars who broke the store's front window, grabbed the smokes and made off with the goods without tripping an alarm. According the report, the store's burglar alarm was ineffective because the telephone system had recently been changed. The newly selected telephone system was incompatible with the already established burglar alarm system. Police said they came upon the scene of the crime shortly before 9 a.m. and found broken glass.
