Carlton Fisk Catches New Court Date

The Cooperstown catcher's drunken driving case was postponed again.

It's been a month and a week since baseball immortal Carlton Fisk was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of his pickup in a New Lenox cornfield, but the former Red and White Sox star has yet to make it into a Joliet courtroom. Fisk was scheduled for a hearing Thursday morning but his drunken driving case postponed until Dec. 17. Fisk's lawyer, Stephen White, is fighting to get his superstar client's driver's license back and to have evidence ejected from the case. Fisk, 64, lost his license when he allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test during his arrest Oct. 22 on charges of driving under the influence, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. White Sox fans in Frankfort didn't need to drive to U.S. Cellular Field on Thursday, June 21, to get close to one of the team's stars. Thanks to an autograph signing appearance at Triple Threat Sports, residents were able to meet Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn. Triple Threat Sports continues to bring in big-name Chicago White Sox players for autograph sessions. First baseman Paul Konerko made an appearance Monday, June 4, and now Sox slugger Adam Dunn and pitcher Jake Peavy are set to appear at separate signings at the sports apparel shop that recently moved from Mokena to Frankfort. Triple Threat Sports Offers Deal for Nate Jones Signing

The White Sox reliever will sign autographs at the sports apparel shop Thursday, May 31. And if you know the magic words, you can score free tickets. Find out what they are, as well as when Paul Kornerko will be in town for a signing.

Since moving to Frankfort from Mokena earlier this month, Triple Threat Sports has wasted little time when it comes to having company over to check out the new digs. Former Chicago Bears guard Kurt Becker and current White Sox pitcher Hector Santiago have both been to the new store for autograph signings in May. And before the month is out, the sports apparel shop will have another Sox pitcher in, and customers will be able to pick up free tickets for the signing if they say the right thing. Baseball: Cousin Pitchers Duel as Marist Tops Providence

Marist took down the state runners-up 9-5 in the sectional semifinals. Redhawks pitcher Mike Hearne settled down to win against his cousin, David Hearne of Providence Catholic.

The sports-crazed fans of Marist and Providence Catholic flooded the first- and third-base lines Wednesday for a thrilling Class 4A sectional semifinal, and in the middle of it all was Jean Hearne. She was there to see two of her grandsons play: Providence pitcher David Hearne on the mound opposite Marist pitcher Mike Hearne. "I'm just rooting for the pitchers," she said at the start of the game. "I just hope they both have a good game. One of them's got to lose." That one was David and his Providence Celtics, which finished second in the state tournament last year. Baseball: Providence HR Tops L-W Central in Pitchers' Duel

The Celtics beat the Knights 2-0 in a crosstown battle that featured fantastic pitching and defense.

Zak Kutsulis' two-run homer in the sixth inning was the difference in a defensive battle between crosstown rivals Lincoln-Way Central and Providence Catholic on April 10. The Celtics won 2-0 in a great pitchers' duel between Providence's David Hearne and Central's Grant Bartell. Hits were hard to come by, even with the wind blowing out, but the lefty Kutsulis pulled one out of the park to decide the game. "It was just a very good baseball game on both sides, and we got the one big hit and that was the difference," Providence coach Mark Smith said.  The Knights (10-4) were coming off a 21-run performance over Thornton on Monday, but the level of competition was much higher in this game. Nine Griffins student-athletes signed with college teams on Wednesday. Here's what they had to say about their decisions and what they'll miss from East.

Last year's blizzard put National Signing Day on hold for Lincoln-Way East High School student-athletes announcing their colleges of choice. But weather was no problem Wednesday as parents and L-W East coaches and administrators celebrated the letters of intent signings for seven football players and two baseball players from the high school. "I couldn't be more proud of the fact that you've earned what you've deserved," said David Brost, East's athletics director. "You've worked very hard. You've become role models for so many kids that will enter our doors at Lincoln-Way East over the next years to come." Years after a family tragedy sidelined a Mokena man's baseball dreams, his son follows the tradition.

Welcome back. Hopes and dreams, we all have them. Sometimes we get to achieve them, other times fate steps in the way. The latter appeared to be the outcome for longtime Mokena resident Jim Giglio. After high school, Jim was the recipient of a college scholarship to play baseball. A natural talent, Jim was considered what they call a five-tool player (good hitter, hit for power, great foot speed, excellent fielder and above average throwing arm). By many accounts a chance at a big league career was a very real possibility. Ah, but fate had not yet spoken. After a great start and well into his sophomore year on his college baseball team, Jim received bad news from home. His father fell ill and he was needed at home to help get the family …
