Red Paint Sprayed on Frankfort Cars: Will County Blotter

Will County police reports, April 12-15.

MONDAY, APRIL 15 Two cars were sprayed with red paint in Frankfort, according to reports. One happened in the 7300 block of West Braemar Lane. A 2007 BMW was spray painted on the wheels, windows and plates. Two garages in that same area also were hit. The other vehicle vandalized was a 2008 GMC Arcadia that was parked in the 19000 block of South Sophie Court. SATURDAY, APRIL 13 Two speakers and an amplifier were taken out of a vehicle pared in the 100 block of Michael Lane in New Lenox, according to a report. Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 7000 block of West St. Francis Road in Frankfort and took a handbag containing $40 and a driver's license, according to a report. Smoke Bandit Pockets 1800 Cartons of Cigarettes: Blotter

SATURDAY, MARCH 23 About 1,800 cartons of cigarettes and smoking accessories were stolen from Ameen Discount Corp., 7954 W. Lincoln Hwy., in Frankfort, according to a report. Sheriff's deputies heard an alarm going off. After investigating, deputies found a shattered window and the rear door open. About 40 cases of the smoking products were reported missing. Mobil Burglar Shatters Glass, Steals Cash and Cigarettes

The burglary took place just two days after Christmas.

Editor's note: This article was revised after publication. Mokena’s Mobil gas station was the victim of a burglary just a few days after Christmas. The event occurred at 4:11 a.m. on Dec. 27 at the La Grange Road gas station, according to reports from the Mokena Police Department. $100, 12 packs of cigarettes and the bottom drawer of the store’s cash register were stolen, police report. Police initially responded to an alarm at the gas station. When they arrived, they found the north entrance glass door shattered. Video surveillance revealed that the burglar drove a dark Chevy Venture minivan and broke the glass with a sledgehammer before entering the business. Will County Jail Inmate Afraid Guards Going To Kill Him

A Harvey man in jail on a burglary charge out of Frankfort says he is afraid correctional officers will kill him for lawsuits he filed alleging he was beaten and abused.

Six months after he was locked up in the Will County jail on burglary and theft charges, William Jenkins said guards bashed his head against a shower stall wall before pushing and punching him during a strip search. Six months after that alleged attack, the 29-year-old Harvey man said members of the jail's black-clad Emergency Response Team locked went into his cell and beat him so badly he was sent to the medical wing for two weeks. Jenkins sued six different deputies—three in connection with each alleged attack—shortly after the respective incidents. And now he fears he will be killed for blowing the whistle, said his lawyer. TUESDAY, NOV. 27 Ruth W. Jones, 51, of the 11800 block of W. 195th Street in Mokena, was cited for disregarding a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at the intersection of W. Laraway Road and S. Pfeiffer Road in Frankfort. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28 Unknown persons stole a large inflatable dog from the front yard of a residence on the 20000 block of S. Ellen Lane in Frankfort. The dog was four-foot, 6-inches tall and was wearing a Santa hat, with a stocking that said “Merry Christmas” hanging from its mouth. New Lenox Township Murder Case Gets Pushed Back

A Chicago man charged with a New Lenox Township murder is moving slowly, but it is not forgotten.

A Chicago man jailed more than a year on murder charges made a brief court appearance Nov. 5. By agreement of both the prosecuting attorney and the defense, the case of Rodney Julun has been pushed back four months. The trial date was set for March 18, 2013. Rodney Julun, 24, was returned to the Will County Adult Detention Facility after his lawyer explained that he needed time to go over evidence recently turned over by prosecutors. It was agreed that Julun's family would be providing his trial clothes and dropping them off at the jail.    Read more about the defense's claims that Julun was treated poorly during the interrogation. Burglars Clear Out Cigarette Shop: Police Blotter

Nearly $15,500 worth of cigarettes were stolen in a burglary at Select Cigars on LaGrange Road.

MONDAY, OCT. 29 Alarm mishap allows break-in at smoke shop Mokena police are investigating a burglary sometime after 11:15 p.m. Sunday and before 8:45 a.m. Monday at Select Cigars in the 19800 block of LaGrange Road. Cigarettes valued at $15,436 were stolen by burglars who broke the store's front window, grabbed the smokes and made off with the goods without tripping an alarm. According the report, the store's burglar alarm was ineffective because the telephone system had recently been changed. The newly selected telephone system was incompatible with the already established burglar alarm system. Police said they came upon the scene of the crime shortly before 9 a.m. and found broken glass. Mokena Police reports, Aug. 19-27 • Two teens arrested for underage drinking and fleeing police • Circle K employee caught on video stealing.

SUNDAY, AUG. 19 Two 17-year-old boys—one from Mokena and one from Frankfort—were arrested on the 1100 block of First Street and charged with underage consumption of alcohol and interference with a village officer when they were caught running from police, according to the report. The officer saw the teens walking down the sidewalk on First Street at 1:50 a.m., and when he approached them in his squad car, they began to run. After a foot chase, the officer caught the Frankfort teen behind Avalanche Jewelry, according to the report. The teen told the officer that he ran because he was out past curfew, and he was only 17, the report stated. WEDNESDAY, AUG. 15 A glass jar with about $50 in coins was stolen from the bedroom of a house in the 11500 block of South Brightway Drive. The homeowner told Mokena Police that someone had entered the residence by prying open two rear-entry doors, damaging both, according to the report. The homeowner's bedroom had been rifled through, but nothing was missing, the report stated. His roommate, however, reported the jar of coins missing from the roommate's bedroom, the report said. The rear window of a car parked at Post Game Pub was reported broken. The owner, a New York resident, told police she was inside when it happened.
