From a Front Street barber who can still pull out the old "fire haircut" technique to a good-bye to the Mokena Elementary principal, here are readers' reactions to the week's news.
By a country mile, the biggest Facebook response of the week, month, year and possibly entire history of Mokena Patch was to the video of Front Street barber Tony Dina cutting hair with an open flame instead of scissors. As of 8:01 p.m. Thursday, it has been recommended on Facebook by more than 600 people! Wow! It made the AOL homepage Thursday morning and has generated a lot of talk on Patches nation-wide. It's been very good for the site, but there's one person I forgot to thank. Community columnist Don Labriola, whose "I Love Mokena" column runs Mondays, was the person who told me about the singe haircut and the first to write on the site about it. The Patch is doing a great job keeping us informed. I have to give Mr. Labriola credit, I really like the I LOVE MOKENA column. I started reading it about 4 months ago and was curious about the the thought behind it. I came to see very quickly that Mr. Labriola wants to share his love of the town.
