Hair on Fire and Good-Bye Mrs. Clavenna: Top Talkers in Feedback Friday

From a Front Street barber who can still pull out the old "fire haircut" technique to a good-bye to the Mokena Elementary principal, here are readers' reactions to the week's news.

By a country mile, the biggest Facebook response of the week, month, year and possibly entire history of Mokena Patch was to the video of Front Street barber Tony Dina cutting hair with an open flame instead of scissors. As of 8:01 p.m. Thursday, it has been recommended on Facebook by more than 600 people! Wow! It made the AOL homepage Thursday morning and has generated a lot of talk on Patches nation-wide. It's been very good for the site, but there's one person I forgot to thank. The Patch is doing a great job keeping us informed. I have to give Mr. Labriola credit, I really like the I LOVE MOKENA column. I started reading it about 4 months ago and was curious about the the thought behind it. I came to see very quickly that Mr. Labriola wants to share his love of the town. The story about PRINCE DANNY was great. Keep up the good work MOKENA PATCH and I LOVE MOKENA.   more ›

"Even though I am leaving Mokena, Mokena will always be a very special district for me," Clavenna said. Clavenna will be starting as assistant principal at O'Neill Middle School in Downers Grove in the fall, she said. She was assistant principal at Mokena Junior High School for a year before taking the MES job last August. "I just really liked that level. The young kids are great. It's been a wonderful experience, but my niche is really at the junior high level," she said. "I think that I always thought that someday I would return to a …

I am going to miss Chris very much; she has always been a wonderful asset to 159. But I am excited for her with her new endeavor nonetheless. I've seen firsthand how she interacts with 5th-8th graders and that is most definitely her niche. Good luck, Chris!!   more ›
