South Suburban DUI Arrests, April 29

Champagne is for celebrating special occasions. But two bottles in down one throat leads to a special DUI arrest. Check out the latest drunken driving busts in the Southland.

PALOS HEIGHTS April 21: Nikola Ostojic, 38, of the 12900 block of Forestview Road, was charged with driving under the influence. He was stopped at 4:53 a.m. and failed a field sobriety test, police said. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of .143, police said. April 21: Trevor King, 33, of the 5000 block of 171st Street in Tinley Park, was charged with drunken driving. He was stopped at 1:50 a.m. for doing 55 miles per hour in a 35 zone, police said. South Suburban DUI Arrests, Feb. 5

A four-car pileup. A one-car crackup. A utility pole. And a high-speed rear-ender. A lot of bent metal in the latest roundup of south suburban drunken driving busts.

ORLAND PARK Jan. 25: Felix Hernandez, 28, of the 13700 block of Trafalgar Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, improper lane use, failure to signal and avoiding a traffic control device. Police pulled over a car after seeing it cross into the median, swerve between lanes, turn without signaling and cross through a parking lot, on 82nd Avenue near Uxbridge Drive around 2:10 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Police Blotter: Unlawful Use of Weapon

Mokena Police Reports, Jan. 17-20.

Michael Preston, 30, of the 16900 block of Songbird Circle in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon after officers found a Smith & Wesson Airweight .38 revolver in his coat pocket, police said. Police approached Preston after receiving complaints of a trespasser who was banging on the door of a house in the 11700 block of West 193rd Street. Preston resisted officers several times, and once he was handcuffed, they searched him and found the gun. Preston told police it belonged to a friend of his who was a police officer in Blue Island and he had put it in his coat pocket to take into his house and had forgotten about it. Preston was also charged with possession of cannabis after police found a green leafy …

Police Blotter: Hit-And-Run on Willow; DUIs on 191st

Mokena police reports, Jan. 1-9.

John F. Murphy III, 24, of the 22600 block of Joshua Drive in Frankfort, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of improper lane usage, police said. Murphy was stopped by police after an officer saw his car change lanes several times going eastbound on 191st and as it turned southbound on 88th Avenue. Murphy failed field sobriety tests. He posted bond and his driver's license and was released pending a February court date in Joliet. Stephen E. Merlo, 23, of the 8000 block of Deer Path in Justice, was arrested and charged with hit-and-run, expired registration and speeding, police said. Police Blotter: Confrontation on 191st Street; DUI Wears Sunglasses at Night

Mokena Police Reports, Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.

Spray paint was discovered on the roof of Mokena Intermediate School, 11331 W. 195th Street, police said. The vandalism took place sometime between 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31 and 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2. Police were investigating reports that a man got out of his Dodge Durango and damaged another car's windshield at 191st Street and LaGrange Avenue early Friday morning, according to reports. A man driving a black Jaguar told police he had been tailgated by the red or maroon Durango after he left 191 South and had to drive around the other car to get out of the parking lot and drive east on 191st Street. As the cars approached LaGrange Avenue, the Durango pulled in front of the Jaguar and the driver had to brake hard from hitting the Durango. As…
