While the Lincoln-Way East High School Griffins did not win the Class 7A state championship title, they can hardly be called losers. They stepped out on that Memorial Stadium field as conference champions. They stepped out on that field 13-0. They gave all they had to give and then some more. They are definitely champions. Local residents lined the streets with signs and cheered, giving their team a reason to smile. The team paraded down the streets of both Mokena and …

LWE had a great season again. The players and coaches did their best to win but ran into an excellent opponent. They work hard and are fortunate to have a great coaching staff lead by Coach Z. Keep up the good work and best of luck in the future. All is good.   more ›

Griffin Spotlight: Brent Luchene

Every day this week Patch will profile a member of the Lincoln-Way East Griffins football team in honor of their upcoming participation in the State Championship.

Name:  Brent Luchene Jersey: #41 Position: RB Grade: 12  What is the greatest strength of this year’s football team? Our defense is definitely the strongest part of our team, they lift up the offense whenever we make mistakes. What has been the highlight of this season so far?  What is your best memory of the season? The best part of the season thus far was being on the field for the victory formation against Benet. What is the greatest challenge the team has faced this season? Mentally preparing for our next opponent and not looking ahead, as well as maintaining physical strength throughout the season. What would winning the state championship mean to you? It would be a dream come true for all of us, it’s the only way to end our four …

7A Football: L-W East Too Much for Providence Catholic

Griffins 24, Celtics 14. Lincoln-Way East continues its undefeated season in an area battle.

In the highly touted matchup between area powerhouses Lincoln-Way East and Providence Catholic, the Griffins defense dominated another game to push East to the Class 7A quarterfinals with a 24-14 win. East jumped out to an early lead and seemed to put the game away until Providence scored a couple of times late. Still, it wasn't enough to knock off the undefeated Griffins, who forced two safeties.  Providence finishes the season at 8-3. Lincoln-Way East is 11-0 and will have another home game next week against No. 2 Edwardsville.  If you missed the game, you can catch the replay on Comcast's CN100 Game of the Week.
