Lincoln-Way East 42, Joliet West 6. The Griffin defense was dominant again to lead Lincoln-Way East to an undefeated regular season.
The penalty-filled matchup of Lincoln-Way East and Joliet West was an easy win for the undefeated conference champions as the Griffins won 42-6. The game, which started late because of Senior Night celebrations, was repeatedly interrupted by laundry on the field and shouting matches between officials, coaches and even players. Posturing continued well into the second half. Joliet West's season is over, finishing with a 3-6 record. The Griffins are 9-0 and can expect one of the top seeds in the Class 7A state playoffs. The playoff pairings will be announced Saturday night. Get news alerts and Facebook updates from these Lincoln-Way Patch sites:

Dave Brost didn’t write the book on how to be a successful high school athletic director. He learned the job as he went along. Brost, 62, is retiring in May after working for 19 years as an athletic director, the last 13 at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort. During that time, he has guided one of the most successful and most diverse athletic programs in Illinois. East has won four state championships during his tenure and captured eight first- or second-place trophies in IHSA state tournament competitions. The Griffins have gone from a what—what’s a Griffin? Answer: A mythological creature with the head of an eagle the body of a lion. To a who: East teams have become fixtures at the top of many state-wide polls since then-coach …

Patch looks at upcoming prep football match-ups by rating how their mascots would fare in a no-holds-barred duel.

Today, we’re looking at the Lincoln-Way East Griffins and the Bolingbrook Raiders, due to face off tonight at 7 p.m. at Bolingbrook. While many things can be "Raiders," from military units to Harrison Ford to Twix bars in France back in the day, Bolingbrook's version of "Raider" is a pirate. This is awesome. The griffin is the mythical king of all creatures, with the body of the king of the beasts (the lion) and the head and wings of the king of the birds (the eagle). Some researchers believe the griffin was based on ancient people discovering unearthed protoceratops bones. This is more …
